A magazine devoted to covering the international design community, Idn is an excellently well produced and of course fantastically well-designed publication published bi-monthly.
This highly creative magazine – Idn stands for International Designers Network – takes in-depth looks at design related topics, rather than featuring many articles only lightly touching upon them. It devotes most of its space to one topic, but also examines creativity within countries and ‘studio’ features, and is full of wonderful imagery and examples of design. If you’re involved in any kind of creative or design industry then this magazine is a must read, and they more often than not include a DVD full of design related content.

We don’t think that there is another magazine out there that crams so much fantastic design into its pages – well, except maybe for Idn Extra, the magazine full of all the extra content they couldn’t quite squeeze into Idn they also publish. This magazine is ad-free, something that is always welcome in a creative publication such as this as it allows for an enhanced, uninterrupted experience.
Idn takes a good hard look at a particular topic in design – for example, sex, humour, logos, glitches, treating the subject with all the attention that it merits. Design and creativity is such a deep area of work, with so many different ways of approaching a task and a huge number of incredibly talented designers at work, that such things really do need a good thirty or so pages devoted to them. Of course, that is not all there is in the magazine, as there are also in-depth looks at the creative industries in particular countries, as well as looks at the works of particular studios.
We also rather like the multi-faceted approach to design in Idn, with the accompanying DVD being a highly informative and effective way of presenting extra content without using up valuable page space. Essential reading for the creatives and designers out there. NB
