Pit is a magazine with roots in food and fire. While our original intention was to take an in-depth, fresh and fun look at the world of live fire cooking (and we still do), our purpose has evolved, and we now have a much wider remit. Each themed issue uncovers the most interesting and unusual food stories from around the world through people, traditions, techniques and ingredients.
We’ve cooked a giant goat shawarma for 30 people in a south London snowstorm, themed whole issues around sausages and MSG, and travelled the world through Sicily, Morocco, Malaysia and Zanzibar in search of dinner.
Pit publishes a wide range of content. From geeky science features (why does smoke make food taste so good? How does salt affect ingredients?), to fresh recipe angles and in-depth features focusing on everything from a tongue in cheek kebab taxonomy to the link between sex work, opium and illegal liquor production in Madya Pradesh.
Buy a single copy of Pit or a subscription of your desired length, delivered worldwide. Current issues sent same day up to 3pm! All magazines sent by 1st Class Mail UK or 48 Hour tracked UK & by Airmail worldwide (bar UK over 750g which may go 2nd Class).
A new episode of Pit is hot off the press and ready to binge! TV + food has been done to death, you might think? Not like this, it hasn’t.
Settle in and get goggle-eyed as Ed Krish remembers his time working as a food stylist at the TV shopping channel QVC, Marianne Françoise Dick discovers a fake food workshop in Scotland, and we take a literal deep dive into the ocean with Jacques Cousteau, exploring the strange and gastronomically rich world of the charismatic, aquatic gourmand.
Ella Risbridger writes about her love for TV dinners, Tim Anderson talks about how TV made his…entire life, actually, and MiMi Aye reveals her childhood obsession with food TV ads (and performing them at school).
Plus! Recipes for late-night delights including the dirtiest affogato and slipperiest noodles.
Pit’s TV issue is ready to view, and it’s gonna be the hit of the summer.
