A high class, excellent quality publication, The Burlington Magazine is a monthly academic journal that is devoted to covering the fine and decorative arts.

Founded in 1903, it has been featuring the very best of what the art world has to offer since then, with notable figures leading the magazine in the past such as Roger Fry and Benedict Nelson. This lavishly produced magazine offers intelligent analysis and insight into some stunning artwork, features news on recent and upcoming exhibitions and recent acquisitions, reviews art books and has features on art history. It is a work of art itself, showing off excellent photography and being incredibly well produced.

This may sound a little crazy, so bear with us, but after years of experience in the world of magazines we can identify them by feel alone. Well, not the individual magazine titles, but the subject covered – different types of magazines use different grades and styles of paper. We would know a glossy fashion mag from a hobby publication, a weighty fashion compendium from a flimsy newspaper. Now, you might be saying “that’s simple”, and to some extent it is, but the type that is uniquely identifiable is the art magazine.

From the feel of the cover alone we could tell that this was going to a top quality publication – it is incredibly hard to convey the tactile sensation of such a mag, but it’s a wonderful matte finish that feels cool yet soft to the touch.

The Burlington (or the BVRLINGTON if you want to faithfully reproduce the font) is indeed a lovely publication, and essential reading for anyone fascinated by art and art history. It features looks at wonderful works of art that would otherwise require you to visit the gallery or museum where they are kept – explore the world of art whilst sitting at home, what more could you ask for?
