Friends of the Magazine Yard Act lead the charge, as we catch up with them in the Czech Republic (obviously - Ed) to unpick ‘You’re Gonna Need A Little Music’, an album James Smith describes as full of riddles he can’t solve either. “I really started to lean into the idea of multiple meanings and this strange post-truth era we live in,” he tells us, in a cover story that takes in fluke theories, bugeye lenses and the unique path that got them here.

Fat Dog go deep on their second album ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’, with the ballads, the trance, the sincere pop song about a dictator and, when required, actual dog noises. “I wanted to make something stupid enough to be really energetic and poppy,” reckons Joe Love, before the conversation gets to Shrek 5. Naturally.

Completing the set with someone well on their way to superstar status, Ravyn Lenae tells us all about ‘Blue Island’, the fearless follow-up to the record that changed her life. “This album feels like a statement of rejection of anything that anybody tries to place on me,” she says, ahead of a summer that brings her to All Points East in London this August.
