It is a well known fact that a man in a well cut suit has the same effect on women as a leggy blonde in lingerie has on a man. I first took an interest in men’s fashion having watched Dragon’s Den, where I noticed Peter Jones’ immaculate taste in suits. Being a man of large stature, he clearly has had everything tailored, a luxury not everyone can afford, but one that is perhaps worth forking out for at least once in a lifetime.
My personal preference? Shades of soft greys, trousers that settle on the shoe laces but NOT on the ground under the heel, a double vent and a perfectly fitted jacket. Honestly, there is nothing worse that a man wearing a suit jacket that swamps him or causes the button thread severe agony and strain. As for shirts, I guess I’m a little old fashioned because I love cufflinks, so a double cuff is almost always a must. Suits are all about class and a suave attitude… James Bond would never have worn a floral tie in his life, so keep away from anything other than plain silk or subtle patterning when it comes to ties. If you get lost, a crisp, open necked shirt rarely fails to look sophisticated. For something a bit more modern, however, one can toy with t shirts, waistcoats, chino shorts and of course, accessories such as hats, belts and jewellery to create that urban individual look.
The important thing is, whether men decide to go for classic chic or modern mayhem, confidence and a bit of a swagger is always the key.
