A great weekly trade journal dealing with every aspect of commercial vehicle operations, Commercial Motor magazine offers comprehensive and thorough coverage of the sector.

Each issue of this magazine brings you all the latest news from the world of road transport both in the UK and worldwide, including all the political mistakes (sorry, we meant policies) that impact upon the industry, as well as in-depth investigations into areas such as truck crime. It also offers an impressive legal section, offering case reports and legal advice. Commercial Motor also covers used trucks, has a great operations section with buyers’ guides and looks at road haulage in action, and has a huge amount of classified ads covering buying and selling in the industry.

Commercial Motor magazine does a great job of offering thorough coverage of the road transport industry – every issue brings you pretty much everything you could ever need to know, with all the latest developments in the sector covered in impressive detail. It was, however, the operations section that particularly caught our eye, offering a look at road haulage in action in a variety of different settings. A good example of this was the article examining the symbiotic relationship of rock bands and haulage – anyone who’s ever been to a big gig knows that there is a huge amount of gear that needs dragging from one place to another, and the large number of shows means that this needs to be done on a tight schedule. The Bon Jovi tour of 2011, for example, used a whopping 43 trucks for their 23 show tour of Europe – lots of gigs means lots of rigs.

It is always fascinating to read about the slightly more niche, slightly more unexpected areas of an industry, and reading a feature on the history of the vehicles used by travelling fairs was no exception to this. Commercial motor therefore moonlights as both a thorough, straightforward trade journal and a genuinely interesting read – handy for those compulsory rest stops. NB
