One thing we would like to do before we get too old – and it seems that age is ever creeping up on us – is to cycle the length of the country. We don’t necessarily mean the whole John O’Groats to Landsend (or vice versa) deal, just from the bottom-ish up to the top.
We would walk this, but it would frankly be far too long and time consuming. Instead we would love to grab a mountain bike – a good one mind you, something perhaps from the pages of Mountain Bike Rider magazine – and set off on an epic road trip, done our way. We would cycle from pub to pub (it is important to stop at each one in order to have a pint… I mean, sample the local culture), getting progressively wobblier and wobblier until we found somewhere to set up the tent for the night to sleep it off. The next morning we would struggle awake and set off again.
This is sort of the land-based version of a booze cruise, but healthy. We don’t quite know what the combination of tons of beer and loads of healthy exercise will be – we could end up fat or thin, it really is anyone’s guess – but we would be sure to ensure that we’re having a damn good time doing so.
