For issue #7 Beauty Papers poses the question: What is Glamour?

Glamour is often described as unreal charm that can provide the almost narcotic effect of casting a spell over someone and two artists who epitomise this from their disparate standpoints in the art world are Duggie Fields and Cindy Sherman who are both profiled in this issue along with an exclusive cover image by Sherman.

An issue about Glamour needs the allure of conversation and here the honours range from legendary snapper Clive Arrowsmith to chic polymath Michael Roberts and the shimmering talent of gentleman makeup artist and creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup Peter Philips. What would an issue about Glamour be without a star and here Cate Blanchett, photographed by award winning lensman Casper Sejersen, shows how the art of performance really can evoke the true beauty of subversion, especially when accented by the makeup brush of Morag Ross.

Other photographic explorations in the issue range from Katerina Jebb’s studies on the worship of Glamour through beauty aesthetics to Jamie Morgan’s fly boys—with hair bigger than a Karlheinz Weinberger portrait!—to a contemporary take on glamrock by the legendary photographer Paolo Roversi and seminal makeup artist Lucia Pieroni. So what was Beauty Papers’ conclusion on this rhinestone encrusted, lipstick quivering and Champagne sparkling journey into the realms of Glamour? Perhaps the unifying feeling is that although modern glamour requires much thought, consideration, time, maintenance and, dare we say, money, imagination and magic is where the real glamour lies.

In a world where small minds appear to run the ship—often at the expense of creativity, inclusivity and, indeed, humanity—it feels timely for Beauty Papers to celebrate BIG in all its myriad forms; talent, fame, expression, age, honour, gender and conscience.

In this issue the big art of conversation, now a Beauty Papers staple, is explored in exclusive musings with the likes of makeup artist Topolino, milliner Stephen Jones, hair supremo Eugene Souleiman and the celebrated artist Gillian Wearing. We go on an existential trip with model/muse Guinevere Van Seenus and photographer Yelena Yemchuk, view yet another side of the multi-faceted Kate Moss, shot through the lens of Lisa Butler, and as David Sims collaborates with makeup artist Lucia Pieroni a schizophrenic beauty bacchanal is the fantastical result.

When it comes to big dreams Polly Borland’s Bowery-esqe work will certainly take your there and so will the idiosyncratic visions of Julie Verhoeven, as photographed by Annie Collinge. And what could be bigger than the arresting portraits of street photographer Bruce Gilden who has shot an exclusive series for Beauty Papers on the sidewalks of New York. No magazine celebrating BIG would be complete without Hollywood and here Gwendoline Christie does the honours in a shoot by Sean Ellis, and BAFTA award-winning film makeup artist Morag Ross reveals the true beauty of age.
