The incredibly informative magazine that never misses its target, Sporting Shooter brings you the very best of the British shooting scene.

This magazine is written by the experts, and this shows in the quality of the content. Sporting Shooter contains the latest shooting news, and well-written features examining some of the ins-and-outs of different kinds of sport shooting – pigeons, foxes, deer, rifles and shotguns being only a few examples. Where it really shines however is in the recommendation and testing of different pieces of kit – from guns of every calibre to decoys and scopes and hide – and the advice on shooting technique. Every issue also contains a feature on classic guns, and a section devoted to gundogs.

We’re a little on the fence about shooting sometimes here at Newsstand. We appreciate that it is all too often necessary, and that it requires a great deal of skill, patience and dedication to be able to do well, but we can’t help but feel it is all a little unfair. We would like to see pigeons and the like armed in some manner to even the odds a little – it would make it more exciting for everyone concerned.

Any ethical qualms that we might have are quickly forgotten however when we remember how much we like eating meat. After all, if we can live with killing and eating a huge number of animals that haven’t even enjoyed a life spent free in the countryside, then we can hardly be against shooting, can we? There is something appealing about getting out into the great outdoors testing your abilities and if you can take home what you’ve killed and make a delicious lunch, all the better.

Here are some of the rubbish puns that we decided didn’t deserve to make it into the description of Sporting Shooter: ‘A magazine of the highest calibre’, ‘articles that don’t misfire’, ‘bringing both barrels to bear on the hobby of shooting’ and ‘scoping out the best deals’. NB
