Now, we love every form of music here at Newsstand. We love rocking out, throwing up the metal horns, sipping fine wine and digesting some classical music, dancing happily to pop or embarrassingly to some 80s synth mixes. We are musical omnivores, happy to give everything a chance, grazing on all that passes our way.
When it comes to jazz, however, we have a bit of a soft spot. We love music with soul, and it is only blues that comes close to challenging Jazz for that crown. Due to its wonderful improvisational and off-the-cuff nature jazz music provides an excellent platform for the very best musicians to get up there and bare their musical soul. The very best groups have played together for years and know exactly all the little nuances and moves that they are each going to take, and it is something wondrous to behold when you see people simply making it up as they go along together and it not sounding like a hideous cacophony.
Jazz has a fine history, and Jazz Times does an excellent job of covering the past, present and future of this most moving form of music. Jazz has soul, spirit and style, and so do all those who play it. NB
