Each issue is packed full of the latest news about the newest cars and race results, alongside features on some of the most thrilling cars on the market – Skylines, MX-5s, MR2s and more, all having been modified to within an inch of their life to make them even faster. Japanese Performance is also a highly practical magazine, featuring guides to tuning on any budget, reviews of all the latest kit – exhausts, batteries, turbos, wheels etc., an informative buyer’s guide and a garage section providing advice and help with customisation.

Japanese Performance mag covers some absolutely classic car marques – everyone knows the quality of the likes of the Subaru Impreza and secretly wishes they owned a Mitsubishi Evo. It is no surprise that these cars were – and still are – incredibly successful in the world of rallysports and motorsports, and when you factor in the big names such as the Skyline you are talking about some serious performance. Japanese motoring is perhaps the most exciting and innovative market for cars in the world right now.

What we love, however, are the tales of those who found a slightly old, slightly dog-eared looking car second-hand, restored it to its former glory and then beyond it. Perhaps it’s because we love a good tale of redemption, but we love to see unassuming looking cars tuned to perfection, practically humming with power ready to be unleashed. One ambition of ours has always been to get some fantastically old and slightly rubbish car – say a Lada (apologies to anyone who owns one) – and strip out everything, replacing it all with high-tech and incredibly powerful performance parts. We would leave the bodywork however, simply so that whenever we pull up alongside a high-performance car at some red lights we can turn the jeers into stunned looks of amazement as we blast past them. Immature? Perhaps. Worth it? Totally. NB
