Yachting USA has been going for over one hundred years – its first edition was published in 1907 – and for once when commenting about a magazine with a long history, we can say that almost nothing has changed since then.
Well, that is obviously a fair bit of an exaggeration. A lot has changed – the technology involved in making the ships, guiding them through Global Positioning Satellites, the level of luxury one can expect on board a yacht and so on. Nevertheless, a significant amount has remained the same – the essence being that you are floating about on a powered boat, exploring the world at your own pace. And it is no surprise that this hasn’t changed – frankly the concept is pretty much perfect.
Really, there is almost no better life than one spent at sea, taking a chance and visiting new locations. You are not bound by any earthly connections, instead free to roam wherever you please, to come and go on a whim (and the permission of the docks). The reason that Yachting USA and the many other yachting magazines out there have been so successful is that there are those who are willing to take the gamble and spend a while discovering the world. It may be a little crazy to do, but you’ll certainly have a good time in doing so.
Oh, and of course you could always just own the boat and take it out at weekends. Up to you really. NB
