As I recently discovered, most vehicles used in the military are referred to as AFVs, or Armoured Fighting Vehicles, meaning they are heavily protected and “weaponized”. The easily recognisable tank vehicle is designed for all terrains and generally used for a front line approach. The template for the majority of tanks features a main artillery gun which is set into a rotating platform on top of the body of the vehicle and caterpillar wheels. The tank is like a mobile fortress keeping those tucked away inside massively protected during combat.

Typically, we know three main variants of the tank; Cavalry (light), Cruiser (medium) and Infantry (heavy) but all have very similar roles within combat. Tanks have developed massively over the year to incorporate ever progressing technology, such as tracking systems, locking devices and extra weaponry.

I often wonder what soldiers fighting prior to WWI would have thought of these huge metal beasts roaming around the front line. It is truly incredible how the setting of war has changed so much in a relatively short space of time, most significantly between the World Wars and now.
