There are those of us who like to stay at home, flop onto the sofa, order some takeaway food and watch TV or DVDs of an evening. Perhaps there are those of us who love nothing more than going down the Rose & Thorn and enjoying a few refreshments of an evening. These things are all delightfully enjoyable – we have conducted significant research in this area, and we can confidently say that such things are fun – but we are missing out.

Any experienced hiker or mountaineer will tell you that there is absolutely nothing that can compare to the wonderful feeling of reaching the top of a mountain or finishing a gruelling hike. Now, being the type of fellows who enjoy the lifestyle detailed above we don’t have all that much experience in the area, but we have conquered the fearsome summit of Mount Snowdon (only a mountain by around 80 metres, but a mountain nonetheless) and enjoyed a hike from time to time. We know that feeling of accomplishment, of the world (quite literally) at your feet.

The only issue we had was that, being the summer and being Wales, it was incredibly cloudy and you couldn’t see more than ten foot from the summit. So much for stunning panoramic views, but it’s the thought that counts.

Trek & Mountain magazine is aimed primarily at those with a good amount of experience, but is nonetheless important reading for anyone about to head off on a dangerous expedition – and we think that we might have a go. Everest, how hard can it be?… NB
