An American film magazine published by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Film Comment magazine is an intelligently written and well observed publication.
Bringing you the information and news from both sides of the camera lens, Film Comment covers actors, directors, producers and is full of interviews and features on and reviews of upcoming and recent releases. Thankfully this magazine doesn’t simply cover the already famous, and gives plenty of space to the more quirky characters of the world of film and smaller, independent movies. Excellently written and aimed at those who appreciate the many aspects of a great film.

Here at Newsstand we are of the firm opinion that a diverse world is undeniably a better world. The more different, strange and unusual things there are in world, the less homogenised and cloned it is, the more wonderful it is. Where would you rather eat? Some excellent, little known yet unique restaurant that you’ve never been to before, or a McDonalds where you know what you’re going to get, the same every time? We think that the answer isn’t that difficult. This can be applied across the whole of our society and culture – we should celebrate the unique and the different before it becomes lost to us forever in the sands of time.
It is that spirit that we welcome magazines such as Film Comment with open arms, bringing as it does a perspective on the world of cinema outside of the mainstream, free from the explosions and poor characterisation, hackneyed writing and boring plot of the usual recycled blockbusters. Sure, they have a place as a summer distraction, something to watch with a few friends that even if you won’t all enjoy, nobody will hate, but the coverage of the arty, independent film movement within this magazine is highly welcome, bringing you movies that really have the power to move you.
