A lovely scholarly literary journal from the US, The Antioch Review is actually a fascinating read in its own right, showing off some absolutely excellent writing.
Publishing work from both new and established authors, The Antioch Review showcases a fascinating blend of essays, fiction and poetry. The only qualifiers for entry into the magazine for the contributions are that they must be exceptionally well written and highly thought-provoking, and with a range of personal essays and moving works of fiction these standards are certainly achieved. This A5 sized publication makes for fascinating reading, whether serious literary scholar or simply someone interested in literature.

The Antioch Review has been published since 1941, making it an impressive seventy-one years old. It would be absolutely fascinating to study how the fiction and essays published in the Review itself reflect how American society had changed, with the important topics and questions facing it revealed through the topics in The Antioch Review. It may sound a little meta, but for anyone out there who fancies contributing an article to The Antioch Review, a essay studying how they themselves have reflected their country would no doubt be well-received, though it might be a little self-congratulatory.
We certainly found ourselves fascinated by The Antioch Review, and what was meant to be a quick flick through to find out the general gist of the publication turned into a good read. It ended up being passed around the office, taken home by different members of the staff, and we even ended up having deep philosophical discussions. Mind you, that was down the pub so that tends to happen anyway. And don’t worry, we send you brand new copies that haven’t been handled by our staff! The combination of great writing, interesting stories and essays and a handy size – it feels very similar to a paperback book – means you are getting a great little journal for your money. In fact, thinking of it as a book is a good way to go, the only difference being that it covers a wide range of topics and features a number of different writers, meaning you get an impressive amount of literature.
