A naughty vice of mine has to be home improvement and home buying programs such as Escape To the Country or Grand Designs. I love seeing the excited faces being walked around these homes, some beautiful and some not. One of my more recent personal favourites has to be a converted chapel over towards Somerset. It’s high ceilings, quirky shape and stunningly old fashioned stonework had me glued to the television, allowing my Frosties to go all soggy. I think there are many who would agree, but I get so excited at the prospect of owning my own home and being able to decorate it exactly how I want it. Even just a grubby little one bedroom flat will do me fine for now because, as a student, that would be quite the luxury! My personal interior design style focuses around simple, practical but very much countryside living. Lots of greenery, natural materials and plenty of vintage stuff. My grandfather used to collect old farming tools and keys, and his collection is now all mounted and documented in the freezing old back kitchen on my uncle’s farm. You wouldn’t expect to use old saws and sheep shearers in interior design, but somehow it works. I think interior design works best when it correlates with the personality of whoever lives there, because then you can connect the two together. I think people would find it very odd if I started decorating everything in new rave themed plastics and glass!
