As much as I love fashion, sometimes I wonder whether it’s really necessary, and what we really use it for. There are some that say fashion is not art, but merely advertising, and I think that to a very cynical extent this is true. But on the other hand, what is it that makes us feel a million quid in one outfit and awful in another?
There are shapes that flatter and play on the eye of the viewer, so I guess to an extent we are trying to control how others perceive us. Does it work? Who knows, but what I do know is that fashion and clothes are fun. There is a reason little girls love playing dress up and insist on having a hundred and one different outfits for their favourite Barbie doll. It’s half wanting to be maternal like mum, half a seemingly innate love for looking pretty.
We think it’s important to express yourself in any way possible, and admittedly if you’re not the creative type, fashion is one of the easiest ways to do it. In this day and age we have so little control over our daily lives, it makes sense that having complete control over our sense of style becomes more and more important.
