It is so rare to find a magazine that covers areas such as fashion whilst retaining a wider view. Arise covers so much that it will be a great read, whatever your interests. When was the last time any of the most popular fashion mags covered elections and politics around the globe? There really is an exceptional array of content to be found in Arise, and it reflects perfectly that ‘culture’ is a concept bigger than what we wear and what we listen to.
Nestled amongst one of the many outstanding articles in issue 15 of Arise was one that particularly caught our eye; an examination of the software pioneer Jonathan Gosier, and how he made a successful transition to working with tech in Africa. Sometimes we wonder whether the image we have of Africa accurately reflects the true picture, shaped as it is by television images of starving children. Of course, this is not to downplay the problems, but by the end of 2012 Africa will have more than 735 million mobile phones in the country - a huge number. Africa is a huge, wonderfully complex continent, and the more that magazines such as Arise celebrate the culture of this under-represented world, the better.
This publication will no doubt in the future be remembered as a pioneer.
