There are a lot of tattoo magazines out there, and whisper it quietly (some of those biker blokes look like they might disagree with us), but they all seem pretty much alike. They represent a pretty straightforward approach to tattoos, devoting as many pages as possible to image after image of tattoos and little else.
Things and Ink, however, is something rather different, and we think, something rather special. This excellently produced publication takes a step back and takes a look at both tattoos and the wider tattoo culture - from a female perspective. This magazine covers such topics as tattoos in art throughout history, what it means to get your first tattoo, and even an entertaining column from a tattoo virgin in a world where all her friends are inked. Things and Ink is the kind of magazine that can take a thoughtful look at tattooed professionals, and offer an insightful look at the effects they have upon work and life. It also covers beauty and fashion, and has a section called simply ‘Things’, featuring a wonderful miscellany of tattoo related stuff.
For a fascinating and intelligent look at tattoo culture from a refreshing and interesting perspective we can’t recommend this highly enough. NB.
