If there’s one thing we love with sports magazines, its when they don’t take themselves too seriously. Match! magazine is so relaxed, irreverent and cool that we’re impressed that the magazine manages to cover as much footy as it does. Any magazine that has a section in the contents simply labelled ‘cool stuff’ is good by us – why not just chuck a load of things in that made you laugh or think ‘That’s awesome!’?
Football is, despite the occasionally ludicrous prices that some of the players are valued at, still a game. People play it for fun, and despite all that is riding on some of the bigger matches, it should still be something enjoyed with a laugh, a smile and a pint or two with the oppositions supporters at the end of the day.
Match also goes down the classic entertaining mag route of adding speech bubbles to the pics of the footballers, imagining what they would be saying. Sometimes these are a bit hit and miss, but for the most part they are actually pretty damn hilarious. There’s even a double page spread simply devoted to showing off the craziest pics from the world of footy that week.
