More on Kiteworld International Magazine

The insane world of extreme sports is one that I have not yet had the opportunity to get involved in, but I would very much like to. Bungee jumping, paragliding, kite boarding, surfing and even underground caving or rock climbing all spell out a definite appeal!

The idea of the extreme sport has been heavily promoted by the USA based event known as The X Games, but the growing desire to take part in potentially life threatening sports stems from around the 1950’s. The desire to prove oneself combined with a love of adrenaline rush normally best describes those who decide to take part, feelings I think many could relate with. A lot of these sports rely on the mercy of the elements, for example snow climbers or white water rafters. Even though road cycling produces the most deaths and injuries per year, it is not counted as an extreme sport.

However, after having watched 127 hours, it is clear that off roading on a bike can be fatal, especially when alone. The story follows canyoneerer Aron Ralston, who found himself trapped in a canyon with his arm wedged underneath a rock for just over five days. He only managed to survive by cutting off his own arm with a penknife, yet he still goes out canyoning and cycling to this day.
