When I was younger I’d often head down to the local ponds for picnics with friends, and more often than not, there was some chap dozing in the sun with a line held loosely in his hands. I always thought how peaceful and contented they always seemed to look. It has been suggested repeatedly over the years that fishing is good for your health. You are relaxed yet focused and on a warm sunny day you get a cool breeze coming at you from the waters in front of you. Phone off and a ham sandwich ready and waiting. It makes sense- once you’ve made that commitment to focus on doing something purely for a bit of calm relief from the busy world, you can commit your mind to ponderings that avoid those subjects, such as work or obligations, which cause you stress. The sounds of gently moving water and calm nature are often used in recordings to help people sleep and relax. We naturally tend to yearn for a slice of nature from time to time, to get back to our roots, and what better way to do it than fishing, when you could get to go home with a nice tasty fish!? So if you are someone who is stressed and busy, make some time to do something both relaxing and rewarding.
