American Spectator Magazine
Issues per Year:
10
All the current affairs and political and economic hot topics that face the USA through the eyes of a rather right-wing, republican perspective, American Spectator is a monthly mag edited by the wonderfully American sounding R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.
Each issue combines strongly opinionated articles about a huge range of political, social and economic issues with the latest news. There is coverage of the political campaigning, the coverage of the media, public opinion and more besides, written in an articulate and intelligent manner. Also reviews the latest republican related books.

The American Spectator is packed full of views and opinions that would make even the hardest-line Tories here in the UK drop his monocle into his whisky and say ‘Steady on old boy, don’t you think that’s going a bit far?’ We have a tendency to equate the political parties in America with those back here in Britain, with the Republicans being analogous to the Conservatives and the Democrats with Labour. Well, it is more akin to the Democrats being at about the same right-wing point as the Conservatives and the Republicans even further to the right.
Representing the republican, ultra-conservative viewpoint, American Spectator has been published since 1967, when it was founded by the man still editing it whilst still a student, R. Emmett Tyrrell, JR. This is the kind of magazine where ‘liberal’ is a dirty word (see the review of ‘The Tyranny of Clichés: How Liberals Cheat in the War of Ideas in the May 2012 issue as a little example of this), where use of the term ‘socialist’ would get you banned from their country club and ‘communist’ would see you likely deported.
We don’t profess to admire any politics in particular, or support any party here or in America, but we can say without a shadow of a doubt that you will find The American Spectator a provocative read. NB
