Back whilst I was still living in the country, whilst just a naive young lad, there was a bus that would turn up every now and then, almost inexplicably. Whenever you had missed what you thought was your last bus home, this strangely magical bus would suddenly appear, and always just happen to be going where you needed to. More than a few times I had stood despondently at the bus stop in some village or another, trying to figure out how to get back home, when it would seemingly appear out of thin air. Whether this was all simply a strange string of coincidences, or whether there was some greater force at work I will never know, but since those days I have had a strong respect for all things bus and coach related.
Fast forward more years than I care to remember and the bus forms a daily part of my routine, being the primary method by which I get to work – you try driving through the heart of Canterbury with it’s fascinating mix of closed roads and one-way systems and tell me the car is better. In fact, all of us here use the bus in one way or another, so hats off to the fine people who operate the buses – no doubt the same people who read Coach and Bus Week magazine.
