It took us a while here at Newsstand to be able to appreciate the caravan or motorhome lifestyle. After all, we do appreciate solid walls and floors, a decent bit of space and somewhere easy to cook. These things all seem to be simpler in a cottage or hotel, and when you drive there you surely have as much flexibility.
Then it hit us. No matter how wonderfully convenient or delightfully situated, a holiday cottage or hotel can never quite feel like home. A motorhome not only affords you the freedom to travel where you want, when you want, but it allows you to bring a sense of cosiness, familiarity and homeliness with you. Now, this of course might not be for everyone – we do appreciate those who like to get absorbed into a new location – but we can certainly see the benefits of bringing a little bit of home with you on your trip. Sleep in a familiar bed, cook your own food in your own comfortable environment yet in a paradoxically exotic locale, whether in the beautiful English countryside or perched on the edge of a precipice in Peru. The sense of reliability that only bringing with you that little slice of home can give you may well be the best thing about the trip. NB
