The recent designing and creation of the High Speed rail link between London St Pancras and Ashford International and beyond (known as HS-1 in a feat of boring nomenclature, we would have preferred something like the ‘Falcon’ line, but sadly we’re very rarely listened to in the halls of parliament) has really been a resounding success. A journey from Canterbury to London used to take the best part of two hours, now it takes less than one.
This has really opened up the delightful countryside in Kent for those who wish to live their and commute into London. What’s more, it has made possible the simple act of going in to London for a night out and not having to head back by 9 o’clock. This widens the potential cultural experience of people in Kent, and has been done at a really rather reasonable increase in ticket price. Amazingly, this has been a government public transport project that has not only gone as planned, but has actually had a positive effect all around. As rare as it may seem, we congratulate the government on their achievement. Now, please, please stop trying to build another high-speed line between Birmingham and London. Thanks, much appreciated.
