Africa is, quite simply, the most exciting and intriguing continent there is. A large part of that is down to the sheer diversity to be found there – the huge variety of different climates is down to the sheer size, as the continent stretches from Egypt in the east to Morocco in the west, and all the way down to South Africa, encompassing desert, scrubland, jungle, savannah and more. It is astonishingly vibrant in terms of culture – it is perhaps a little disingenuous to think of Africa as a continent, as the number of countries and number of tribes and communities within each country is simply astonishing.
The wildlife is perhaps an even more stunning aspect of the continent than the land or the culture – with absolutely no disrespect to either. It is no wonder that the zoos here in the UK are full of the exotic and exquisitely elegant and brutally powerful creatures to be found in Africa – the lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, gazelle... all represent a wonderfully different world to our rather more prosaic indigenous animals.
If there’s one place that you simply have to explore, it is Africa. Work hard, save up the money for the trip and grab a copy of Travel Africa – we’re certain you’ll find somewhere that piques your interest. NB
