Radio really is a fascinating field of communication and has been used a great deal throughout the past ninety or so years. Nowadays it is mainly used for entertainment or communication between a few people, rather than in the past when vital broadcasts would me transmitted to entire nations en masse. Especially during wartimes it was hugely important that civilians tuned into their wirelesses at the right time to hear speeches and updates on current events. I perceive it to be a bit of a shame technology has evolved so hugely since then, but it is certainly more convenient to be able to get the news wherever you are via mobile phone, laptop or the in between brands such as iPads and Tablets. Despite this, I still know a huge amount of people who still listen to the radio religiously. My own mother ironically listens to it on her digital television in the kitchen, rather than watching actual TV.
Personally, I have shifted over to the innovation that is the Podcast. Many of my favourite radio shows are made available for free download via podcast, whereas others have made the switch from radio to podcast all together. It is such a simple way of learning, laughing or even just listening to a story because you can download it onto your super-modern-gizmo and then it’s yours.
Admittedly, modern technology often scares the bajeebers out of me…but there is no denying how simple and completely useful it all is.
