The Artist’s Magazine is a visual art publication packed with tips on how to improve artistic technique over a diverse selection of styles, subject matter and medium, and also gives glimpses into the life and studios of selected artists themselves. Dealing with traditional mediums, and primarily aimed at the amateur artist, it also provides a guide to the best products available for your respective medium, and helps you deepen your understanding of how fine art works while remaining practical and unpretentious.

The Artist’s Magazine offers advice on the creative process, and how to optimise your output and the quality of your work, providing detailed advice on certain effects that can be realised within your visual art work.
For example, it can teach you to achieve texture in coloured pencil, transparency in your watercolours, or correct problematic perspective and distance within a landscape scene. It features articles on the old masters, but also includes more recent work.
It does not deal with modern or abstract art, preferring to focus on fine art and techniques in traditional mediums, such as painting in oil, watercolour, acrylic or pencil work, but teaches the reader to adapt these techniques to a more up-to-date style.
This magazine touches too on the form of composition; design unity, psychological complexity, comprehensible space, negative space, and consistency of light to name but a few. However,
The Artist’s Magazine is by no means a high-brow technical manual in the science of composition, but a down-to-earth and practical guide for the amateur artist looking to improve their skills and deepen their understanding. There is also an “artist’s marketplace” in the back: a useful list of workshops, tours, galleries and studios available to visit.
Artist's Magazine is in the Visual Arts category and is just one of over 3,000 magazines now available at Newsstand, to browse recent front covers of Artist's Magazine, please click here.
