More on Sci Fi Now Magazine

I love everything to do with horror and fantasy, from Count Dracula to Buffy, from Terry Pratchett to Harry Potter. I think that being able to create a whole alternate text world in which the unimaginable is both possible and normal takes some incredible skill.

Joss Whedon is a very noteworthy name when it comes to this talent, with various successes such as Buffy, Dollhouse and Firefly, all of which express some serious imagination. It’s hard to pin down favourite categories, but when it comes to horror films, I think the scariest ones aren’t those that have the most twisted and gory death scenes, but the ones featuring things that could potentially happen, for example I Am Legend, or those that delve into the unknown world of ghosts and the human psyche, which keeps you on the edge of your seat.

My favourite film in 28 Days Later, but it manages to combine some beautiful shots with that unnerving realisation that it is possible that some new strain of an illness breaks out and dislodges the human conscious, so it’s one that really gets you thinking. It’s a common discussion nowadays of what you would do in a zombie apocalypse, where you would hide and what weapons you would use, and this is a direct result of some truly amazing pieces of cinema over the last 10-15 years.

Sci Fi Now Magazine is in the Science Fiction category and is just one of over 3,000 magazines now available at Newsstand, to browse recent front covers of Sci Fi Now Magazine, please click here.
