More on Scotland Magazine

Scotland has a lush and vibrant history which is widely celebrated. There is Scottish literature dating back to the 6th Century, and their flag dates back to the 9th Century, making it the oldest national flag still in use. Some food and drink widely associated with Scotland are Haggis, shortbread, Irn Bru, fish and chips and sometimes (albeit jokingly) the deep-fried Mars bar. When I was told to bring food in for St Andrew’s day, my mum gave me a packet of shortbread fingers and said ‘close enough!’ Aside from Irn Bru, Scottish is famous for it’s whisky distilleries.

When my family went up there for a wedding, my dad regressed like a little boy in a chocolate factory when we took a tour around the distillery that produced his favourite kind of whisky. He even joined a Whisky club!

My favourite aspect of Scotland however, has to be it’s music scene. Bagpipes, fiddles, accordions and a lot of feet stamping and dancing around in circles is a brilliant way to spend on evening. My aunt decided to have a traditional Scottish band at her wedding reception which was so much fun! It wasn’t quite Highland dancing, but I think most of us decided that, aided by champagne, it was near enough. All in all, I adore Scotland for it’s ability to keep a good grip on it’s rich and traditional culture.
