Actual Archaeology Magazine

Actual Archaeology magazine has a solid feel to it – this a very respectable Anatolian publication. The in-depth articles within offer insights into ongoing and prominent archaeological investigations with a focus on the area of Turkey, written by experts directly involved in the processes. This great magazine brings some of the fascinating history of the region to light, and is perfect for anyone interested in archaeology, history or the beautiful locales of Turkey. Real, proper archaeology – we’ll have none of your Time Team here thanks! Actual Archaelogy is actually about archaeology, despite the misleading title.

If it would please the court, we would like to retract the statement about Time Team found above. We actually love Time Team here at Newsstand – there is no program that has done more to increase the British public’s awareness and appreciation for the time-consuming and back-breaking work of archaeologists.
Just about everyone one knows that familiar opening theme, and the stone inset with the time team logo. Then, we sweep to a shot of Tony Robinson looking cold, damp and distinctly uncomfortable in a field somewhere in the depths of Norfolk, exploring an Iron Age bog or some such thing. There’s the slightly crazy fellow with an unending supply of colourful jumpers and wispy white hair. Oh, and of course the bizarre figure of Phil Harding, with his hat that appears to be nailed onto his head, grubby fingernails and unfathomable accent. Throughout three days (what do they do if they find something astonishing towards the third day but don’t have time to properly excavate it? Cover it back up and pretend it’s not there?) they investigate how and where people lived.
This gallery of characters has brought the country digs from just abut everywhere, and just about every time period, and is impressively still going strong (though perhaps a little less sprightly) today. Surely some sort of award is in order? NB
Actual Archaeology Magazine is in the Countryside category and is just one of over 3,000 magazines now available at Newsstand, to browse recent front covers of Actual Archaeology Magazine, please click here.
