Say it quietly in case Sony or Sega are listening, but Nintendo is by far our favourite game company out there. Nintendo has been the most innovative, revolutionary and fun videogames company to come out of Japan, and above all has had the best games and consoles.
We can remember playing Super Mario Kart on the NES wayyyy back in the past (we’re old, okay), and then the SNES. We were thrilled by the excitement of Golden-eye, a true classic on the N64 (still our favourite console ever) and then playing Paper Mario 2 on the Dreamcast. Then the Wii came along and changed everything; suddenly gaming as mainstream and popular, no longer a hobby looked down on with disdain by parents who wished their child would go out and play – it’s Britain, it’s more than likely raining… Why go outside when we could be a moustachioed Italian plumber fighting giant turtles in a wonderful, colourful world?
We often wonder where they got their character ideas from; a gorilla called Donkey Kong who throws barrels, a plump Italian plumber who, along with his slightly cowardly brother, saves the day. Perhaps it is really quite relevant that the power-up for Mario was a slightly magical mushroom… NB
