The accompanying magazine to the marvellous kid’s TV Show, Mike the Knight is a wonderful magazine for those little knights out there.
This magazine combines entertainment and education, as all good children’s products should. Inside you’ll read the adventures of the eponymous Mike and his group of friends, with the storylines adding further depth to the TV show. There are also fun activities such as drawing and colouring in, games and a workbook section to help with drawing, phonics, writing, describing, rhyming and more. This magazine is perfect for any child who loves the show, but stands on its own merits as well.
Of all the things that kids want to be when they grow up – perennial favourites seem to include astronaut, footballer and billionaire (but for some reason never accountants…) – being a knight is one that seems rather to have experienced a decline since the middle-ages.
We’re not sure why, after all it’s got a lot going for it. A nice bit of warfare, some heavy armour, a dose or two of chivalry, large white horses to ride around on and as much banqueting as you can face. Oh and the damsels in distress… What we’re getting at is that being a knight is a pretty good thing, yet it is not something that children seem aspire to be any more.
We would certainly like to see more heavily armoured people riding through the streets, and maybe a bit of jousting here and there, so we welcome Mike the Knight, both the TV show and the excellent magazine. There are far worse things than aspiring to knightly behaviour, so this friendly yet educational magazine gets the thumbs up from us.
Now, if you’ll excuse us we’re off to go and tilt at some windmills. NB
