Many of the weirdest and most wonderful creatures are often found in the ocean because they have to adapt to such difficult conditions. Humans in fact know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the ocean floor, and they are always discovering bizarre new fish. I spent a week scuba diving in the Maldives and I have never seen so many weird fish in one place! On one dive we hung onto a reef while watching two enormous manta rays glide past with their mouths wide open, smaller fish swimming in and out, not phased at all by these giants. My favourite fish had to be a little batfish that followed the group at a distance along the reef. He was extremely curious, yet extremely shy, so whenever anybody looked at him he would swim away fast!
Aside from the underwater world of fish, I feel it is important to understand other animals as well as they do us! It is widely accepted that most animals, for example horses and dogs, have a sixth sense so they can tell when we are happy, sad, scared, etc. I grew up on a farm surrounded by a family of working dogs who were so well trained they could roam around wherever they wanted. What a life! Most of them were good natured but it is vital to know which animals, even domesticated ones, might react badly to a certain type of human behaviour, such as boisterous playing or shouting.
