Metropolis magazine says itself that it enjoys examining ‘contemporary life through design’. The publication particularly likes to explore why design happens in certain ways. It is so much more than an average design magazine that focuses on interiors or architecture because it actively explores the economic, social, cultural, environmental and political context of designs.
Metropolis has a pioneering graphic presentation which really displays the large scale structures in all their glory. If you think that buildings and architecture are boring and should be left to stuffy old architects then think again! There will be features which discuss the most controversial new designs throughout the entire world.
We particularly liked one feature in an issue of Metropolis which discussed the work of up and coming architect Sanjeev Shankar, who built a shade canopy out of 945 cooking oil cans which was put up in a village near New Delhi and used as a way for the locals to find shade and come together socially. The architect created a beautiful new structure to bring people together out of whatever was readily available in India at the time. How cool is that? It shows that designs can be made anywhere if you’ve got the right mind to make it work. This is the type of design that Metropolis loves to discuss in the magazine. All the budding architects and fans of design out there will really miss out if they don’t try out a copy of Metropolis today.
Metropolis Magazine is in the Build & Architecture category and is just one of over 3,000 magazines now available at Newsstand, to browse recent front covers of Metropolis Magazine, please click here.
