Quick, come closer. Closer, they can probably hear us. Phew, I think they’re gone, we’re probably safe.
Eye Spy is an intriguing magazine simply because we have no idea quite how accurate everything included within is. It could be 100% true or a load of false information, cunningly fed to us by the intelligence forces themselves. A conspiracy!
What we do know is that it provided an absolutely fascinating read, covering the exploits of spies both current and historical, from every major country. The technology sections were also particularly interesting – whether spies really still use video cameras placed inside bags with a whole cut out of one end for the lens we aren’t sure, but that sense of deceiving, of getting one up on somebody must be pretty intoxicating. The blame for this fascination can probably be laid squarely at the feet of Ian Fleming and his hero, a certain Bond, James Bond. Every kid in Britain grew up loving that most mysterious of British spies, and according to legend the men wanted to be him, the women wanted to be with him. That might not be true, but everyone still imagines spying as a glamorous, risk filled but highly rewarding occupation.
